Getting rid of those pesky .DS_Store

.DS_Store are files that you would normally not see when using Finder. However they will show un in your terminal very often! This plague affects both Mac and Windows users. .DS_Store files are used by Apple operating system to store folder specific metadata information. They are created in every folder that Finder accesses, even network volumes and external devices.

They are really harmless but if you do not pay attention they could end up in your git repository.

Years ago I created the following alias to get rid of those files wherever they are. Just add the following snippet to your .bashrc or .zshrc and run cleanupDS from your home folder.

alias cleanupDS="find . -type f -name '*.DS_Store' -ls -delete"
